The classification of fillers is based on their mineral origin and chemical composition (mineral, glass, carbon black, organic matter, metal), and mineral fillers are further subdivided according to geological classification.
Classification according to particle size would be beneficial because the size of the particles affects the properties of the material. However, particle size alone is not sufficient as a criterion for selecting fillers. Because different applications have different requirements. In order for the classification to facilitate the application of the filler, the classification method must include those important properties of the filler that have an impact on the final material. For example: particle size and distribution, aspect ratio, chemical composition of the surface, mechanical properties of the filler particles, electrical and thermal conductivity, quantitative description of interactions, composition of the mixture, optical properties, etc.
